Season preview - Richmond

Essential information
Coach: Damien Hardwick (3rd season)
2011 season: 8 wins, 13 losses, 1 draw (12th overall)

Player changes
In: Matthew Arnot, Brandon Ellis, Todd Elton, Ivan Maric, Steven Morris, Brett O'Hanlon
Out: Mitch Farmer, David Gourdis, Mitch Morton, Ben Nason, Troy Taylor, Will Thursfield

Players to watch:
Jake King: Former defender and part-time plumber who had his best season at Richmond as a feisty half-forward. Will come under greater scrutiny this year, as the opposition will be less surprised when the 'Push Up King' lines up forward. Commentator's favourite.
Ivan Maric: Brought over from Adelaide to strengthen a ruck division that has been poorly servicing the exciting Tigers midfield. Unfortunately, Maric brought some of Adelaide back across the border with him. The performances of Maric and his hairdresser will come under greater scrutiny in Melbourne.

Questions to ask Richmond supporters:
  • Can you reclaim your rightful ladder position (9th) this year?
  • Jack or Nick Riewoldt?
Questions not to ask:
  • If you had the 2004 draft again, would you still pick Richard Tambling?
  • When was the last time you played a final?
Prediciton: Richmond could only manage 12th last season, despite career best years from a number of players. There is a lot of that dreaded P-word, potential, floating around at Tigerland, as well as that equally dreaded E-word, expectation. Neither of which Richmond has coped well with recently. Until they consistently threaten the big teams, you can't consider them a legitimate finals threat. And with a horror draw, it's unlikely to see them figuring in September. 11-14th
